SPACEPORT INVOLVEMENT

The Special Emphasis Programs at the Spaceport are an important part of the diversity initiative. While some programs are in place because of Executive Order of the President of the United States, the Spaceport also has Special Emphasis Groups that were formed due to the interest of individuals.

As we strive to achieve and maintain a well-trained, educated and diverse workforce at Kennedy Space Center, these groups assist us by aiding in recruitment activity, reviewing statistical data on minorities and women, and making suggestions to management.

We salute all our Special Emphasis Groups for their assistance to the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity and the Kennedy Space Center and for their efforts to mentor, educate, and celebrate the diversity of our workforce.

Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Working Group (AAPIWG)
AAPIWG involves Spaceport employees in promoting the understanding and appreciation of the peoples and cultures of the many large and small nations surrounding the Pacific Ocean. These diverse perspectives help to strengthen the exchange of ideas at KSC.

Black Employee Strategy Team (BEST)
BEST is dedicated to faithfully supporting the mission of the KSC while ensuring that African-American employees are united, informed, and empowered to maintain, create, and obtain equality and opportunities for individual development.

Disability Awareness and Action working Group (DAAWG)
DAAWG is committed to the empowerment, integration, employment, and full inclusion of all individuals. Informational campaigns and committee actions are specifically directed towards full realization of these goals for all employees at the Spaceport.

Federal Women's Program Working Group (FWPWG)
The members of the FWPWG represent the women of the KSC civil service workforce, drawing upon the diverse skills of members to address women's issues, both personal and professional, that affect all Center employees.

Hispanic Employment Program Working Group (HEPWG)
HEPWG supports actions to provide highly qualified Hispanic applicants for employment, to promote the awareness of multicultural issues at KSC through outreach activities, and to support mission activities that require Spanish-speaking assistance.

Native American Intertribal Council (NAIC)
NAIC is an organization for KSC employees of Native American descent, dedicated to celebrating the Native American culture, educating the public, and acknowledging the contributions of Native Americans to society and the Spaceport.
